NOEL SKIBA                                                       ARTIST STATEMENT
I LOVE being an artist - I have been blessed with this gift from God.  I am committed to producing quality art that captures the spirit of an image. As a colorist, I see beauty in everyday life, a child's smile, sparkling water, racing cars, or shadows on a building. As a historian, I document a moment. I paint spontaneously on site. Whenever or where the spirit moves me, I am ready.

I am a third generation painter originally from Alpena, MI. I now reside near Grand Rapids in Rockford, MI.  Being raised by nature on the shores of Lake Huron and now  near Lake Michigan I have been compelled to paint the beauty and fragility of water and all that surrounds it.

I started freelancing at age 12 after a spiritual commitment to share my talents.  I began doing portraits of children and pets. followed by creating posters for church and special events, graphics, signage, logos, and then art shows, galleries and museums. Relocating to the Grand Rapids area in the late 1970's I earned a BFA, AAS, and ASA degrees focusing on the arts, sciences and business in the 1980's. As a commercial and fine artist traveling from Canada to Mexico and painting on location (plein air) seeking the inspiration from the great masters. Series of substantial fine arts pieces continued to evolve mostly by my love of life, water, nature, and documenting history for commercial and private clients.

Painting life any where...concerts, festivals, sports, and religious events..."Capturing a Moment" began in the 1990's. I traveled to Trinidad and Tobago in 2000, painting with a Christian music group, sharing my gifts with children and adults, performing in person as well as with finished pieces. While creating, I am like a vessel; the art flows through me like an instrument. When I paint, something special happens. I thank God for giving me a gift I can share.
